current situation: a few months ago, the court passed a verdict divorcing them from each other and nullifying their wedlock even without informing them about it, based on a petition from the woman's half-brothers who say that her husband belonged to a different tribe. following this, the woman was taken to prison and still remains there as she is not allowed to meet or even communicate with her husband, since they are strangers now according to the islamic court eventhough the man and woman still consider themselves to be husband and wife. according to the court, the woman can leave the prison and go to her half-brothers if she wishes so, since they are her only surviving male guardians (mahrams). but she prefers to be in jail rather than be with them. the future of the grief-stricken couple and their children now lies at the mercy of the court.

ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ അവസ്ഥ: കുറച്ചു മാസങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമുന്‍പ്‌ കോടതി ഇവരെ വിവാഹബന്ധത്തില്‍നിന്ന് വേര്‍പ്പെടുത്തുകയും ഇവരുടെ ദാമ്പത്യം അസാധുവാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന വിധി അവരെപ്പോലും അറിയിക്കാതെ പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു. സ്ത്രീയുടെ അര്‍ദ്ധസഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അപേക്ഷയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണിത്‌. അവരുടെ വാദമനുസരിച്ച്‌ സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താവ്‌ ഒരു വ്യത്യസ്തഗോത്രത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ടയാളാണ്‌. തുടര്‍ന്ന് സ്ത്രീയെ തടവിലാക്കി. ഇപ്പോഴും അവിടെത്തന്നെ. സ്ത്രീക്ക്‌ തന്റെ ഭര്‍ത്താവുമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടാനോ ആശയവിനിമയം നടത്താന്‍ പോലുമോ അനുവാദമില്ല. കാരണം ഇസ്ലാമികകോടതിയുടെ തീര്‍പ്പുപ്രകാരം ഇപ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ അപരിചിതരാണ്‌. പക്ഷേ അവര്‍ രണ്ടുപേരും പരസ്പരം ദമ്പതികളായാണ്‌ ഇപ്പോഴും കാണുന്നത്‌. സ്ത്രീക്കു വേണമെങ്കില്‍ അര്‍ദ്ധസഹോദരന്മാരുടെ കൂടെ പോയി ജീവിക്കാം. ഇസ്ലാമികപ്രകാരം അവര്‍ മാത്രമാണിപ്പോള്‍ സ്ത്രീയുടെ പുരുഷരക്ഷകര്‍ത്താക്കള്‍ (മഹ്‌റം). പക്ഷേ, സ്ത്രീ ജയിലാണ്‌ അതിലും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നത്‌. ദു:ഖിതരായ ദമ്പതികളുടെയും അവരുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെയും ജീവിതം ഇപ്പോള്‍ കോടതിയുടെ കൈയ്യിലാണ്‌.
