many a time i have seen the colours of apprehension and dread on the faces of people in suq as the vehicle of the 'Commission for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice' (most commonly known as the religious police or the mutawwa) rolled by.
however, it seems that the local thieves were too busy with their work to have any special consideration for anyone :)

സൂക്കില് മതപ്പോലീസി(മുത്തവ്വ)ന്റെ വണ്ടി വരുമ്പോള് ആള്ക്കാരുടെ മുഖത്തെ ഭീതിയും വെപ്രാളവും പല തവണ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.
പക്ഷേ സ്ഥലത്തെ കള്ളന്മാര്ക്ക് അവരോട് പ്രത്യേക പരിഗണനയൊന്നും കാണിക്കാന് സമയം കിട്ടിയില്ല എന്നു തോന്നുന്നു :)
